Content types for email newsletters

When designing an email newsletter, you have the option to select from nine different types of content to include.

You can add padding to adjust the spacing between each content type and the next piece of content. Additionally, you can choose whether the content will be visible to recipients when they view the newsletter on their mobile devices or desktops.

Title

Add a title to your newsletter to highlight a section. For the title, you can:

  • Format and style it using colors, alignment, and sizing, among other elements.
  • Add special characters like symbols and arrows by using the Ω symbol to access the character selector.
  • Use merge tags to dynamically insert a user's first or last name, enabling personalized emails for your recipients. A first name merge tag automatically replaces the tag with the recipient's first name.

Text

Add a Text box to your newsletter to provide information. Similarly to titles, you can:

  • Format and style the content using colors, alignment, and sizing, among other elements. Additionally, you can add lists, links, indentations, etc.
  • Add special characters like symbols and arrows by using the Ω symbol to access the character selector.
  • Use merge tags to dynamically insert a user's first or last name, enabling personalized emails for your recipients. A first name merge tag automatically replaces the tag with the recipient's first name.

Image

Upload an image to your newsletter to improve its visual appeal. For images, you can:

  • Upload an image from your computer. Files must be uploaded in the myfiles folder within the newsletter editor.
  • Define its width and alignment.
  • Update the URL so that the image is replaced and retrieved from an external source. This allows you to import an image from outside your platform.
  • Add alternative text to enhance accessibility for users with screen readers.
  • Add an action that happens when recipients click on the image. See below for options.

Button

Add a clickable button to your newsletter to direct recipients to a specified source. For buttons, you should:

  • Decide the action that happens when a recipient clicks the button and define appropriate settings:
    • Open web page: Add a URL where a recipient is taken. The URL automatically opens in a new tab. Alternatively, link a file.
    • Send email: Specify an email address, subject line, and body content that will initiate an email in the recipient's inbox for them to send.
    • Make call: Add a telephone number for the recipient to call.
    • Send SMS: Add a telephone number and message for the recipient to text.
  • Change the text within the button. We recommend keeping it short and sweet, such as "Take me there" or "Read more."
  • Format and style the button's color, font size and color, alignment, and sizing.
  • Add padding around and letter spacing within your button to adjust its size and view.
  • Decide whether you want to add a border to your button, and if so, choose a color for it. You can also specify the border radius for rounded edges.

Social

Add social icons to your newsletter if you want your recipients to easily access your social accounts or other pages or apps. You can choose from a wide variety of services to include, such as LinkedIn, X, Glassdoor, Snapchat, Spotify, and many more.

For the icons, you can:

  • Select a style for the icons. You can choose from black and white or colored icons, square or round icons, and more.
  • Determine the position of an icon within the order by dragging and dropping.
  • Specify a URL that will direct the recipient to a specific source when they click on an icon.
  • Choose a title and alternative text for an icon.

HTML

To add custom code to your newsletter, you can use HTML.

Using your own code may affect how the newsletter is rendered. Make sure to use correct and responsive HTML. Haiilo does not provide support for inconsistencies with your HTML code.

Video

Display a preview image for a YouTube or Vimeo video in your newsletter. Selecting the image will open the video in a new browser tab. You can:

  • Add a video URL from YouTube or Vimeo to fetch the thumbnail image.

  • Change the title of the video.
  • Determine the design of the Play icon, including changing its type, color, and size.

The video cannot be played directly in the newsletter as email clients typically do not support video playback.

Haiilo Post

Link a Haiilo Post from your platform to your newsletter to engage your users and direct them back into the platform.

You can access the post list, which displays your feed content arranged by publication date in chronological order. Search for and select a post to add. You can find posts by using keywords present in their titles or content.
