All content created on the platform needs to be published in channels to be visible to users. You cannot create content without a channel to publish it in.
You can easily create, edit, or archive a channel in Administration > Settings > choosing a group you'd like to create a channel in > Channels. Channels are managed on a group level, which means you cannot manage channels in the Company Settings; you have to select a group first.
Create a channel
- In the Channels tab, select the Create new channel
- Enter a name for your channel. Each channel has to have a unique name. If you receive an error that a channel with the entered name already exists, please use a different name.
- Decide if the channel will be Public or Private.
- If you create a Private channel, you cannot change the visibility back to Public later.
- A Private channel is also hidden from Company Admins unless they add themselves as Channel Managers during creation or are invited to join later by the Channel Manager they set.
- Write a description for your channel that tells your users what kind of content it contains. The channel description is visible when users customize their feed.
- Optionally, define Channel Manager(s) or Analyst(s) to manage the channel or its analytics.
- Select Create to create your channel
Your new channel will appear in your Channels list, unless you created a Private channel and didn't assign yourself as a Manager. In that case, the channel won't be visible to you.
If the channel is Public, your users can see it in their Channels list and subscribe to it. If the channel is Private, you can subscribe users to the channels by manually adding them. Alternatively, assign the channel as an Essential and Default channel to automatically subscribe subsets of users.
Edit a channel
- Find the channel in the Channels settings
- Select the channel's name that you want to edit to open the channel details window.
- You can edit all the details you input when originally creating the channel, but you can also choose the channel's status:
- Active: An active channel is open; users can subscribe to it and create content in it.
- Archived: Please read more below.
- Select Save to save your changes or Back to channel list to exit
Archive a channel
If you have a channel on your platform that you no longer want to use, you can easily archive it. Archiving the channel will make it invisible in anyone's channel list, and no one will be able to create content in it. All existing content that's been created before archiving the channel will remain accessible.
Your platform's Archived channels can be found under the active channels in the Channels settings. If you want to use an archived channel again, you can go to the channel details window and mark it as active. All subscribers in the channel will remain, so if it is reactivated, the previously subscribed users will see it in their channel list again.
Channels cannot be deleted; they are always only archived.
